Checkers, also known as Draughts, is a classic board game that offers a stimulating challenge for players looking to enhance their logical reasoning and strategic thinking skills. The term “draughts” derives from a verb that means to draw or move, aptly reflecting the game's essence.

The objective of Checkers is to eliminate all of your opponent’s pieces from the board or to restrict their ability to make any legal moves. The game is played between two opponents, each positioned on opposite sides of the board, with one player using dark pieces and the other using light pieces. Players take turns making their moves; it is important to note that a player may not move an opponent's piece.

A typical move involves shifting a piece diagonally to an adjacent unoccupied square. If an adjacent square contains an opponent's piece and the square beyond it is empty, that piece can be captured by jumping over it. Only the dark squares of the checkerboard are utilized for gameplay, and pieces can only move diagonally into unoccupied squares. The game concludes when one player is left with no pieces or cannot make any valid moves.

An interesting aspect of the game is the promotion of pieces. When a standard piece successfully reaches the final row on the opponent’s side of the board, it is upgraded to a "King" piece, which can move in both directions on subsequent turns.

Although Checkers may appear straightforward, the limitations on movement create a blend of enjoyment and complexity. Players must tactically plan their moves well in advance, making it an engaging mental exercise.
